The Commission

On location in the City of London

Purposeful Group commissioned a series of corporate portraits and lifestyle images for their senior team, with a brief to move away from conventional studio photography. Working on location near the Bank of England, the shoot used the contrast between glass architecture and classical stonework to create a setting that felt both established and contemporary.

Location work in the City presents its own demands. The streets around the Bank are among the busiest in London, with pedestrians, traffic and construction all shaping how the shoot needs to work. Moving quickly, reading the light and knowing when to change position are as important as the photography itself. The aim was a cohesive set of images that felt considered and purposeful, never hurried, while keeping the shoot efficient and respectful of the team’s time.

the Approach

Creative Process

The creative process centred on finding clean, purposeful compositions within a complex urban environment. Rather than treating the City as a general backdrop, the location was used selectively: strong architectural lines, reflective glass, pale stone and pockets of softer light all helped shape a set of portraits that felt polished, contemporary and appropriate for a senior team. A short reportage-style set on the balcony of their offices added a more relaxed, observational layer to the collection. The aim throughout was to create images with clarity and presence, balancing professional confidence with a more natural, editorial feel.
