About Paul | Dorset Wedding and Commercial Photographer

For more than 25 years, I’ve photographed weddings and commercial commissions across Dorset, London and the South Coast.

My background is in photojournalism, which shaped how I observe and work. I’m interested in what is feal. I don’t manufacture moments or over-direct people into something that feels unnatural. Whether I’m documenting a wedding day or creating brand imagery for a business, the focus is always on producing photographs that feel thoughful, natural and true to the people in front of the camera.

As a Dorset wedding photographer based in Bournemouth, I photograph weddings across the county, from country houses and coastal venues to smaller civil ceremonies. With more than 600 weddings behind me, I understand how a day unfolds and where the meaningful moments tend to sit. The approach remains observant and unobtrusive, offering guidance only when it is genuinely helpful

Alongside weddings, I work closely with businesses and brands on commercial photography, professional headshots, lifestyle campaigns and event coverage across Dorset and London, often collaborating directly with founders, marketing teams and agencies.

Commercial clients need more than attractive images. They need reliability, discretion and work that aligns with their brand and objectives. My role is to translate that into photographs that feel polished, considered and human.

Working across both private and professional commissions keeps the perspective balanced. The technical standards are consistent, the preparation is structured, and the experience remains personal.

I take on a limited number of commissions each year to ensure every project receives proper attention from the first conversation through to final delivery.

Based in Bournemouth, I travel where the work takes me.

If you would like to talk through your plans, whether personal or professional, I would be glad to hear from you.

Q&A with Paul

How did it all begin?

I was given a camera as a child and became obsessed with understanding how it worked. What started as curiosity quickly became a serious interest. That early fascination turned into formal training, then professional work, and eventually a career built around observing people and telling stories through images.

How would you describe your style?

Natural and considered, with a documentary foundation. I pay attention to what’s happening rather than trying to over-control it. I will guide where needed, especially during portraits or commercial shoots, but the intention is always to create images that feel authentic and confident rather than overly posed.

What have you learned over the years?

Preparation matters as much as creativity. It’s about reading what is happening in front of you, sensing when something is about to unfold and knowing when to step in or step back. Plans change. Light shifts. People settle into the moment. Experience allows you to respond quietly and with confidence.

What sets you apart?

Experience, consistency and perspective. After more than 25 years and hundreds of weddings and commercial commissions, I understand how to adapt quickly without losing focus. Whether it’s an international conference, a brand campaign or an intimate wedding, the priority is always the same: quality and clarity..

Do you work with businesses as well?

Yes. Commercial photography is a significant part of my work. I collaborate with brands, agencies and business owners on headshots, lifestyle imagery, campaigns and event coverage. The approach is structured and strategic, but the photographs still need to feel human.

Can you work confidently in challenging conditions?

Earlier in my career I photographed for music magazines, covering festivals and arena concerts where timing was strict, access was controlled and moments were gone in seconds. There were no second chances. I worked at hundreds of those events over many years.

That experience carries through everything I do now. Weddings, corporate events, commercial assignments, new locations. Walking into new environments and working to time is simply part of the job.

The equipment plays its part. The experience matters more.

What’s it like working with you?

Clear, organised and focused. I manage the details so you do not have to think about the photography on the day. With weddings, that means keeping things relaxed and unobtrusive while staying aware of what matters. With commercial work, it means working to brief, to schedule and with purpose.

Direction is simple when needed, but never forced. From first conversation to final delivery, everything is handled clearly and professionally.
