Bride and groom walking through the gardens at Studland Bay House

A laid-back coastal wedding at one of Dorset’s most scenic venues.

Golden light, sea air and a clifftop ceremony overlooking the Dorset Jurassic coast – a heartfelt celebration in one of the South’s most exclusive seaside venues.

Sarah and Mike’s wedding was one of those early summer days that just felt right from the start. Held entirely at Studland Bay House on Dorset’s Jurassic Coast, it had a perfect mix of laid-back charm, emotion and celebration. With exclusive use of the clifftop venue for the weekend, they were able to enjoy every moment without rushing – from a calm morning getting ready in the house, to dancing under the stars with all their favourite people.

As a Dorset wedding photographer, I regularly photograph weddings along the coast, and Studland is one of those locations that really suits a relaxed, natural approach to the day.

The day started in the bridal suite, where Sarah got ready with her bridesmaids and mum. The space was bright and peaceful, filled with natural light and a sense of quiet excitement. Amazing Face took care of hair and makeup, and there was time for everyone to enjoy the morning before the dress went on. Meanwhile, Mike arrived a little later with his ushers and family, getting ready just across the hall. Everything flowed naturally, no fuss, no stress – just good energy all round.

The ceremony was held outdoors in the garden, with views stretching out to Old Harry Rocks and across Studland Bay. The sun was out in full force, and the breeze off the water kept things feeling fresh and open. With the sea behind them and guests gathered on the lawn, Sarah and Mike said their vows surrounded by smiles. Their confetti moment came as they walked back up through the garden – cheers, colour, and a proper dose of joy.

The drinks reception took place on the lawn outside the house. Glasses of fizz, plenty of hugs and laughter, and a couple who were clearly loving every second. We kept portraits relaxed and informal, with some time set aside later in the day for a wander through the grounds. As the evening sun dropped lower, we took a quiet moment for couple photos overlooking the sea – golden light, long views down the coast, and just the two of them soaking it all in.

Dinner and speeches were held in a marquee beside the house, styled by Camelot Marquees and full of personal touches. The speeches were brilliant! Funny, moving, heartfelt, and had everyone in bits. Later, as dusk rolled in, Sarah and Mike stepped onto the dance floor for their first dance, silhouetted by the last light of the day. Then the band kicked off and the party really took off, with a full dancefloor and the sound of laughter rolling out into the night.

Studland Bay House – A Hidden Gem on the Dorset Coast

Tucked away on the cliffs above Studland Beach, Studland Bay House is a one-of-a-kind Dorset wedding venue. It’s private, peaceful and completely surrounded by nature, with sweeping views across the water, gardens full of character, and a footpath that leads straight down to the beach.

Available for exclusive hire, the house offers a full weekend experience, allowing couples to settle in and enjoy time with friends and family before and after the wedding day itself. The gardens are perfect for outdoor ceremonies and drinks receptions, while the house provides beautiful spaces for getting ready and relaxing. With space for a marquee and no rush to leave at the end of the night, it’s a place that encourages a slower, more personal kind of celebration.

For anyone dreaming of a coastal wedding with sea views, privacy and a proper sense of occasion, Studland Bay House is hard to beat.
