Reportage and documentary event photography – “capturing the moment”
I had the pleasure of being invited to photograph a new music festval held in Castle Park in Bristol, Love Saves The Day. The organisers who run the dance stage at the world famous Glastonbury festival contacted me to arrange the music festival photography.
The brief was to capture all the fun and atmosphere throughout the day long event through lifestyle photography. The event had an urban feel due to being situated in the middle of the city, luckily for the local residents the festival finished at 11pm.
As a documentary and reportage photographer, its always fun to be able to photograph people. I find the best photos are made through careful observations, anticipation and manoeuvring, which allows the capture of real action and emotion.
There were some challenging conditions due to some rather heavy intermittent rain. I did get a bit damp by the end of the day. The camera kit being weather sealed survived. There are a few ‘arty’ photos where water droplets got onto the lens. No flash was used in the making of this photoessay.
