Landscape and seascape photography

It’s not very often that I take photos of landscapes or seascapes, but on occasion one does capture my eye and its nice to photograph them. Below are a few photos from the last month taken in the moment, when out walking and snowboarding.

The first two were taken at Hengistbury Head. It was a lovely sunny day in January, bit chilly and windy but great to be out enjoying the fresh sea air. The first photo was taken from near the top of Warren Hill when the sun was still high. Loverly colours and fluffy white clouds with the wind creating allot of surf. The second photo was taken on the beach at Mudeford Sandspit. It was later in the day and the sky was mostly cloudy, a very different mood and feel.

The next two photos were taken on a recent snowboarding holiday to the Chamonix valley in France. Taken at different times and locations, spectacular views of the Alps. I love snowboarding and its fits in well in around a busy summer period.

Hope you enjoyed the photos please feel free to share or leave any comments. Get in touch about photography.

Christmas by the sea | Dorset wedding photographer

Just wanted to share these photos taken last Christmas in Bournemouth, Dorset. It was a wintery and snowy day, the first photo is of Boscombe pier the second taken from the beach of the snow covered Purbecks. I wonder if we are going to get a white Christmas this year?

It was such a lovely day yesterday, we decided to go for a nice walk in the evening around Poole Harbour and Sandbanks in Poole, Dorset. I took my camera kit with me as I expected a nice sunset, the sky was very clear and the changing colours of the setting sun were already visible around 6.30pm.

We spent about an hour watching the sunset, the different colours in the sky, clouds expanding and becoming softer in shapes, different reflections in the water as it rippled with the change in tide. It was amazing to watch and see how things evolved from sunset to dusk.

Here is a small selection from the evening of my favourite landscape and seascape photos:

Was driving past Poole Harbour the other evening and I had to stop to take this photo as the clouds were so dramatic with the sun reflecting on the water and wet sand. Just as I pulled over to grab the shot I could see the light changing, I only had a few seconds before the clouds moved in on the sun to hide it completely and change the mood of the scene dramatically.

Location photography in Dorset – Portland lighthouse

I was over in Portland at the weekend, I took a few snaps whilst I was in the area, thought I would share this one of the lighthouse with some funky clouds. The contrast in the blue and red is quite sticking and caught my eye.

Location photography – a day out at Durdle Door in Dorset

When I woke up today I thought as it was such a lovely day to take advantage of a free afternoon and take a trip out of Bournemouth. We packed a picnic and drove up the Jurassic coast to Durlde Door in Dorset.

I dont always take my professional kit with me when its just a day out, but today I thought I would get my camera geek on and take some reportage and creative location photos. Travelling only with my Canon 5D mk2 and EF 35mm 1.4L lens, great combination, light to carry and outstanding quality and clarity from the professional optics.

Shame someone has decided to graffiti the sign.

Although it was a bit cloudy, I think clouds are fasincating. So used them to my advantage for composition and creativity. Here are some of the edited photos that I wanted to share with everyone:

By the sea – ‘green collection’

I love living near the beach and the sea, it’s great to be able to get some fresh sea air and enjoy a walk on the sand. I took a few photographs the other day when I went for a walk down Alum Chine, Poole, Dorset. It was an early morning around 8.30am, I was inspired that day by the morning sunshine. All the images were taken on Canon 5D mk2 camera and Canon 35mm 1.4 L lens.

When I got back home I edited the images and a made a small collection, taking influence from the colours of the beach huts. I am planing to release a limited edition range of framed fine art prints from my archive in the near future. Any comments or requests are welcomed.
